Mitch Weight’s account on yesterday’s interview:
At this very moment we are on our way to interview General Butt Naked, admitted war criminal turned pastor, senator and presidential candidate. He slaughtered over twenty thousand people during the war and now he’s dedicated to rebuilding Liberia. I’m terrified…and excited. Here’s a picture of Pat and General Butt Naked:

Pat Parkinson: Nothing like interviewing a former African warlord. I was able to speak with Johnny Paul Koroma during a reporting trip to Sierra Leone in 2000.

Yesterday my West Africa adventure continued. James Rognon and I just completed an interview with General Butt Naked (Joshua Milton Blahyi) at his compound outside Monrovia, Liberia.

Milton was the subject of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival documentary, “The Redemption of General Butt Naked.”

General Butt Naked, admitted war criminal (taking part in human sacrifices which “included the killing of an innocent child and plucking out the heart, which was divided into pieces for us to eat.”) turned pastor, senator and presidential candidate.  Currently he is trying to make up for his past crimes by apologizing to his victims and even now he is helping ex-child soldiers to get back on their feet. Here is a picture of him and his “7th batch” of boys that we were able to get today.

This is one of General Butt Naked’s boys. His name is Sam. He is an ex-child soldier and has been drug free for 6 months. He is holding his daughter. Every time he would turn her so I could get her picture, she would scream because she was scared. I don’t know if she has ever seen a white person before.

We also interviewed with the Reverend Napoleon who volunteers his time to be principal of the Lifting Liberia school. Footage and report soon to come.
